Astronomy Night

Providence Canyon State Park - Lumpkin, GA

Columbus State Universityand the Coca-Cola Space Science Center will present an evening of star gazing and slides. Visitors may bring their own telescopes, but some will be provided. The park offers excellent sky viewing without light pollution. $3 parking. 229-838-6202.

Backpacking 101

Enjoy a wonderful Saturday-night hayride you'll not soon forget. You can camp in your tent or RV, or simply visit us for the day to enjoy this ride and look at the fireflies and other wildlife on our beautiful park. Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. in the campground. $5 parking. 706-245-6270.

Wilderness Survival Tournament

Panola Mountain State Park - Stockbridge, GA

Show off your wilderness survival skills with some friendly competition that includes starting a fire, basic navigation, and survival shelter building. We will also go over basic skills for surviving in the wilderness. Meet at the Alexander Lakes parking lot. Register in advance. $7 plus $5 parking. 770-389-7801.

New Manchester History Hike
Saturdays until Sep 26, 2009 /10 AM - 12 PM

Sweetwater Creek State Park - Lithia Springs, GA

This mile-long hike (easy to moderate) will lead us to the five story ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill and focus on the history of the Sweetwater Creek Valley. This Historian or Ranger-led hike will include going inside the impressive mill ruins and seeing the lovely whitewater rapids (both providing great photo opportunities). $1-$2 plus $5 parking. 770-732-5871.

A new GO Georgia badge has been added to the successful Junior Ranger Program. Kids ages 7 – 14 choose from a list of activities to earn their Gopher badge.

Library ParkPass Loan Program
Library ParkPass Loan Program
Georgia's public libraries are making it easier than ever for patrons to broaden their horizons outdoors as well as indoors. As part of the "Get Outdoors Georgia" campaign, a valid library card now allows patrons to borrow a Georgia State "ParkPass" and Historic Site pass from their local libraries.
