
Tallulah Gorge State Park
Calling all climbers! Explore the rugged wilderness of Tallulah Gorge. At two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep this historic gorge is a sight to see. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks and a suspension bridge, or they can obtain a free permit to hike down to the gorge floor. You'll find more than 20 miles of trails for excellent hiking and biking here, as well as whitewater paddling at certain times during the year.

You'll find more than 20 miles of unforgettable trails at Tallulah George. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a free permit (limit 100 per day) to hike down to the gorge floor. For animals' safety, pets are not allowed on the gorge floor or on any trail accessing the gorge. Leashed pets are still allowed on rim trails.
PUBLIC NOTICE: The Sliding Rock Trail is officially closed, but the Sliding Rock pool area is accessible by hiking the Hurricane Falls staircase. GORGE PERMIT IS REQUIRED.
GORGE FLOOR TRAIL (permit required)
2.5 miles, round-trip. No soil, all rocks and boulders. Rated very difficult.
STONEPLACE TRAIL (permit required)
Approximately 10 miles, round-trip. Rocky and compacted red dirt. Rated moderate to difficult.
NORTH RIM TRAIL
Access to this trail is located behind the Interpretive Center. It is approximately 3/4-mile one-way, moderate with some inclines and stairs. This trail has five Scenic Overlooks.
SOUTH RIM TRAL
Located on the opposite side of the gorge from the Interpretive Center and is approximately 3/4-mile one-way. It is rated moderate with inclines. This trail has five Scenic Overlooks.
HURRICANE FALLS LOOP TRAIL
Approximately 2 miles, round-trip. Mulched with metal stairs. Rated difficult.
HIGH BLUFF TRAIL (permit required)
4 miles, round-trip. Compacted red dirt. Rated moderate.
SHORTLINE TRAIL
3 miles. Paved. Rated easy.
This trail can be accessed from Terrora Circle Road, is paved and can be used for hiking, biking, skating, etc. It follows part of an old railroad bed.

An amazing suspension bridge sways above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls. Exhibits in the Interpretive Center highlight the rich history of this Victorian resort town, as well as the rugged terrain and fragile ecosystem of the area. An award-winning film takes viewers on a dramatic journey through the gorge. Don't miss it! Spend the day and visit the Gorge Overlooks, the Suspension Bridge and the Tallulah Gorge Aesthetic Water Releases (Spring and Fall - Call for specific dates)
This park offers unique biking options! A 1.7 mile paved "Rails to Trails" path that is great for all ages, or mountain bikers will love the 20 miles of killer trails.
Whitewater paddling is available the first two April weekends and first three November weekends. Call for more info. NOTICE: April water releases will be decided at a later date.
Great fishing can be found at Tallulah Gorge.
Swimming is always fun at Tullulah George. Visit the 63-acre lake with beach (seasonal).
Tennis courts available. (Operation by Georgia Power Company and the Friends Discount will not honored at Georgia Power operations.)

Programs at Tallulah Gorge State Park

The Fishing Tackle Loaner Program (FTLP), developed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) and Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is a program that provides a way for budding anglers to try fishing without having to purchase any equipment.

A new GO Georgia badge has been added to the successful Junior Ranger Program. Kids ages 7 - 14 choose from a list of activities to earn their Gopher badge. The younger ones, ages 7 - 10 must complete 5 activities while those in the older group, ages 11 - 14 must work toward completing 8 activities.
