
Skidaway Island State Park
Set off for an island adventure at this treasured Georgia state park. Located near historic Savannah, this barrier island has both salt and fresh water due to estuaries and marshes that flow through the area. The park borders Skidaway Narrows, and provides scenic camping and picnicking areas. Two nature trails offer 4 miles of hiking and 3 playgrounds provide hours of fun for the kids. A giant ground sloth replica and reptile room are featured in the park's nature center.

Hikers can choose between the 1-mile Sandpiper Nature Trail and the 3-mile Big Ferry Trail. These two nature trails wind through marshes, live oaks, cabbage-palmettos and longleaf pines, allowing visitors to watch for deer, raccoon, shore birds and rare migrating birds such as the Painted Bunting. Observation towers provide another chance for visitors to search for wildlife on this beautiful island.

Bring your bike and take a ride through this scenic park. Bikes are not allowed on the Sandpiper Nature Trail.

Programs at Skidaway Island State Park

A new GO Georgia badge has been added to the successful Junior Ranger Program. Kids ages 7 - 14 choose from a list of activities to earn their Gopher badge. The younger ones, ages 7 - 10 must complete 5 activities while those in the older group, ages 11 - 14 must work toward completing 8 activities.
