Red Top Mountain State Park

This park is located on beautiful Lake Allatoona and is ideal for swimming, boating and fishing. Twelve miles of wooded hiking and biking trails wind through the park, providing excellent opportunities for exercise and family fun. Red Top has tennis courts and mini golf for hours of play. Go for a day at the beach or explore a reconstructed 1860s log cabin (open and staffed on Saturdays), this park has it all!

Activities at Red Top Mountain State Park

Hiking

Hikers will find 12.5 miles of beautifully wooded trails at Red Top Mountain.


IRON HILL BIKE TRAIL
3.9 mile loop. Rated moderate.

The parking lot for this trail is located off Red Top Mountain Road, on the right a half mile past the campground. It is a graveled trail that is accessible to both hikers and bicycles.

WHITE TAIL TRAIL
0.5 mile, one way. Rated moderate.

This trail begins at the Lodge parking area and shares a trailhead with the Sweet Gum Trail Loop. The Whitetail Trail then turns off the Sweet Gum Trail Loop and runs north to the end of a scenic point at the edge of Lake Allatoona.

HOMESTEAD TRAIL
5.5 mile loop. Rated moderate.

This trail begins at the front porch of the park Visitor Center, turns north for one mile, crosses Lodge Road and then makes a 3.5 mile loop through some of the most beautiful areas of the park.

VISITOR CENTER LOOP TRAIL
0.75 mile loop. Rated moderate.

This beautiful trail begins one hundred yards down the beginning of the Sweet Gum Trail from the Visitor Center parking area.

LAKESIDE TRAIL
0.75 mile loop. Rated easy.

This short paved trail starts at the Lodge parking lot and makes a loop behind the lodge on the shore of Lake Allatoona. It is ADA Accessible for the entire length.

SWEETGUM LODGE LOOP TRAIL
3.5 mile loop. Rated moderate.

This trail begins at the Visitor Center parking area and also follows a route north.

Biking

Bikers can take on the 4-mile Iron Hill Trail for a nice ride. The young bikers will enjoy cruising on the paved 3/4 mile path.

Boating

Visit the marina with 2 ramps and 2 docks for easy access. Private boats are permitted, no HP limit.

Fishing

Private boats are permitted, no HP limit. Grab your gear and head out for a great day of fishing.

Swimming

A wonderful lakeside beach offers seasonal public sunning and swimming.

Tennis

Tennis players can find great tennis courts at this fun park.

Disc/Mini Golf

This park has a great miniature golf course that is fun for the whole family! (fee)

Junior Ranger Gopher Badge
Junior Ranger Gopher Badge
A new GO Georgia badge has been added to the successful Junior Ranger Program. Kids ages 7 - 14 choose from a list of activities to earn their Gopher badge. The younger ones, ages 7 - 10 must complete 5 activities while those in the older group, ages 11 - 14 must work toward completing 8 activities.

The Fishing Tackle Loaner Program (FTLP), developed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) and Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is a program that provides a way for budding anglers to try fishing without having to purchase any equipment.
