
Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge
Grab your camera! Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning "tumbling waters", is the perfect name for the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi. Stop by the visitor center to pick up a map, see nature exhibits, and live animals before hitting the trails of this popular park. For extra adventure, book a journey to the Len Foote Hike Inn. This secluded mountain lodge is a beautiful five mile hike to a uniquely remote and relaxing stay.

EAST RIDGE TRAIL (OLD APPALACHIAN APPROACH TRAIL)
1 mile. Rated moderate to strenuous. Not blazed. Leads from Visitor Center to the top of the falls.
CREEK TRAIL
0.6 miles. Rated moderate. Blazed yellow.
This trail is moderate in difficulty. Length is 0.6 mile, providing a nice walk from the Visitor Center to the Reflection Pool at the base of the falls.
SPRING TRAIL
0.4 mile. Rated moderate. Blazed orange.
This trail runs from the parking lot of the West Ridge/Falls Access Trail to the Mountain Laurel Loop Trail. It is moderate in difficulty.
MOUNTAIN LAUREL LOOP
1 mile. Rated moderate. Blazed green.
This trail is a loop that runs along the ridge above Amicalola Creek. The trail is moderate in difficulty.
NEW APPALACHIAN APPROACH TRAIL/BASE OF THE FALLS TRAIL
8.5 miles. Rated moderate to strenuous. Blazed blue.
First mile (including 604 step staircase) takes hikers to the falls overlook, then joins the old Appalachian Approach Trail. Briefly joins Hike Inn Trail, then forks left.
WEST RIDGE FALLS ACCESS TRAIL
0.3 miles. Rated moderate to easy. Wheelchair accessible with gentle slope.
One of the best views of the falls and one of the easier trails. Trail surface is flat and coated with recycled tires.
LODGE LOOP
0.25 mile loop. Rated easy. Wheelchair accessible.
Paved surface with educational displays. Trail is lighted for early morning and/or evening use.
HIKE INN TRAIL
5.5 miles. Rated moderate. Blazed yellow.
This trail is the only access to the Len Foote Hike Inn. A permit must be obtained from the Visitor Center to hike this trail.
FITNESS TRAIL
Easy access from the lodge. More than 20 exercise stations along the wooded route.

Try your luck at trout fishing in Amicalola Creek. A fishing license and trout stamp is required.

Programs at Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge

A new GO Georgia badge has been added to the successful Junior Ranger Program. Kids ages 7 - 14 choose from a list of activities to earn their Gopher badge. The younger ones, ages 7 - 10 must complete 5 activities while those in the older group, ages 11 - 14 must work toward completing 8 activities.

The Fishing Tackle Loaner Program (FTLP), developed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) and Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is a program that provides a way for budding anglers to try fishing without having to purchase any equipment.
